Collection: Retinol/Retinal

Retinol and retinal are forms of vitamin A, one of the most studied ingredients in skincare. Retinal (retinaldehyde) is one step closer than retinol to the form the skin uses. In cosmetics, they help smooth the look of fine lines, refine the appearance of pores and give skin a more even-looking texture.

Our selection: a targeted night booster, an eye serum and a sheet mask from Korean brands that pair vitamin A with soothing and hydrating ingredients.

How to start with vitamin A

  • In the evening, 2 to 3 times a week at first, then more often as your skin gets used to it. The sheet mask: 1 to 2 times a week.
  • Apply to clean, dry skin, then follow with a moisturiser.
  • Slight tingling or dryness can happen at the start.
  • Wear sunscreen every morning: see our sunscreens.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding? Ask your doctor or pharmacist first.

FAQ

Retinol or retinal: which one should I choose?
Retinal needs one conversion step less than retinol, so it is often chosen by people who already know retinol. If you are new to vitamin A, start slowly whatever the form.

Can I combine it with vitamin C or acids?
Use them at different times: vitamin C in the morning, vitamin A in the evening. Avoid AHA/BHA exfoliants on the same evening.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Start with once or twice a week and stop if irritation persists. Not sure? Take our skin quiz or write to us.
